Monitoring Types - Flora and Fauna

Flora and Fauna data in MonitorPro

Introduction

Flora and Fauna data have some nuances compared to more simplistic fixed location monitoring such as groundwater borehole level or water sampling. Not all the monitoring is done at fixed locations, such as where fauna sightings are being recorded. MonitorPro presents several features to allow for this type of data to be tracked alongside more static environmental monitoring.

Mapping

One of the key ways to display this type of data is spatially using the in-built mapping.

Below is an example of a transect where some flora monitoring has been conducted. This transect's data can be observed, in this case identifying the species of data present within that location. In MonitorPro this transect has been created as a distinct Sample Point object.

Users also have the option of looking at each individual data point defined by the data coordinates.

Areas can also be used to define rehabilitation areas, seed collection areas, or other definitions associated with the observation or collection of data.

Configuration

There are several flexible options within MonitorPro to enable the setup of Flora and Fauna data. One option is to utilise the Variable Types to support consistent responses. One example is to utilise drop-down lists to present the species types observed.

Flexibility also exists to create and group these species as Variables depending on requirements.

Data Collection

Data can be collected in the field by users in MP-Field. This offers offline data entry with validation options and facilitates QA/QC collection process management.

Photos can also be captured in the field and are automatically linked to objects in the database.

Reporting

There are several options for custom reporting of this type of data. These include the ability to pull out and reference images.
